Doha: Qatargas became the first company in Qatar to achieve Gold level accreditation with ‘Investors in People’ (IiP). The accreditation was achieved in November 2013 by the Company’s Learning and Development (L&D) Department, which also makes it the only L&D Department in any LNG company in the world to receive this award.

‘Investors in People’ is an international business improvement tool administered by UK Commission for Employment and Skills and supported by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS). It was launched in 1991 and is now a network spread across over 70 countries, consisting of over 23,000 organisations of all sizes representing all sectors.

Ghanim Al Kuwari, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer, Administration, received the Gold Accreditation award from David Dale, Operations Director of ‘Investors in People’ during a ceremony held recently at Qatargas’ Head Office building in Doha. Adnan Al Shaibi, Qatargas Learning and Development Manager and Abdulaziz Al Mannai, Qatargas Human Resources Manager also attended the ceremony.

The IiP framework has been developed over 21 years with some of the world’s leading businesses. Accreditation is awarded following a thorough assessment based on the ‘Investors in People Framework’ which sets out a clear structure and benchmark for improvement, to help every team be the very best they can be.

The Qatargas Learning & Development Department applied to join ‘Investors in People’ International and worked towards accreditation for the department with the objective of raising its performance in communications and customer services to the best international standards.

All members of staff in the Learning & Development Department were engaged in all aspects of process improvement and equipped with full understanding and knowledge to be able to participate fully in the strategic aims of the department.

Each employee was interviewed over a three-day period, and challenged to give practical examples of how the department communicates, how it demonstrates the Qatargas values and how the it contributes to the bottomline return on investment for Qatargas.
