QE market capitalisation rises to QR470.25bn

Doha: Qatar Exchange’s main index gained 257.91 points (3.10 percent) in the first week of the New Year when trading closed at 8,569.13 points yesterday.

The trading value during this week increased by 25.13 percent to QR737.48m compared to QR589.36m. Trading volume increased by 5.42 percent to reach 15.68 million shares, as against 14.87 million shares, while the number of transactions fell by 0.89 percent to 9,963 transactions as compared to 10,052 in the previous week.

The market capitalisation increased by 2.79 percent to reach QR470.25bn as compared to QR 457.49bn at the end of previous week.

The banking and financial services sector led the traded value with 50.37 percent of the total, followed by the industrial sector (26.07 percent), the transportation sector (7.99 percent) and the consumer goods and services sector (7.44 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led traded volume with 47.52 percent of the total followed by the transportation sector (15.30 percent), the industrial sector (12.80 percent) and the real estate sector (11.31 percent).

The banking and financial services sector led number of transactions this week with 39.06 percent  of the total followed by the industrial sector (19.48 percent), the transportation sector (12.56 percent) and the consumer goods and services sector (12.10 percent).

Of the 42 companies listed, 34 ended higher while six fell and two remained unchanged. Industries Qatar led traded value with 19.37 percent of the total followed by Qatar National Bank (17.71 percent) and Masraf Al Rayan (9.14 percent).

For the day, Qatar Exchange pursued its upswing trend, adding 119.87 points (or 1.42 percent) to advance to 8,569.13 points from 8,449.26 on Wednesday.

Among the top gainers were Qatar National Bank which was up 2.28 percent to QR134.50, Industries Qatar rose 1.83 percent to QR161.40, Qatar Electricity and Water gained 1.80 percent to QR135.50 and Masraf Al Rayan qas up 1.95 percent to QR26.10.

The banking and financial sector index was up 30.92 points, the consumer goods and services sector index dropped 61.01 points, the industrial sector gained 37.43 points while the insurance sector rose 6.45 points. QNA
