doha: The 92nd Anniversary of the Turkish Republic was celebrated with a fascinating show at the Turkish Embassy on Thursday.
An official reception was hosted by the Ambassador Ahmet Demirok to mark the Republic Day, which is a national holiday in Turkey.
The reception was attended by Deputy Prime Minister H E Ahmad bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud, Minister of Municipality and Urban Planning H E Abdel Rahman bin Khalifa Al Thani and Minister of Economy and Trade, H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jasim Al Thani, as well as ambassadors and military officials from Turkey and Qatar.
Ambassador Demirok delivered the message of the Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Following the speech, Ottoman Military Band, ‘Mehter’ played the nation’s patriotic songs, turning the reception into a glorious night.
Folk dancers and singers from Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism also made a special performance on the occasion.
Despite it formally marks the end of the Ottoman Empire, the republic day has been celebrated with Ottoman symbols in recent years, aiming to keep ceremonies more accessible to the public.
The day commemorates the events of 29 October 1923, when Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, the founder of modern Turkey declared that the country was henceforth a republic.
