Civil Defence holds workshop on disaster management

Dr Tricia Wetchndroff, Associate Director of Disaster Research Center, University of Delaware, addressing  a workshop organised by the General Directorate of Civil Defence at Hilton Hotel Doha.

Doha: The General Directorate of Civil Defence recently held a workshop on “key methods and techniques of evacuation and how to deal with different stages of fire” was held at Hilton Hotel Doha. The workshop was held as part of the 5th Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference to be held next week.
Dr  Tricia Wetchndroff, Associate Director of Disaster Research Center, University of Delaware, presented the topic. The workshop discussed different aspects of the topic including the concept of evacuation, types and stages of evacuation, elements for the success of evacuation plan, importance of forming a working group in the evacuation in institutions and facilities and responsibilities during the decision of evacuation in case of disasters.
Dr Tricia Wetchndroff emphasised the importance of the availability of an instruction manual explaining the methods of evacuation, experiences and expected scenarios pointing out that there is a relationship between social sciences and crisis and disaster management.
The workshop observed the that some countries may appear that they are far from risk and disaster but it is learned that there are so-called latent dangers that may appear at any time, which requires attention to the science of disaster management and the preparation for the proposed solutions in accordance with the potential risks. The workshop was second of its kind in the series of programmes held prior to the 5th Civil Defence Exhibition and Conference.
