DOHA: Qatar, represented by the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, hosted 95th meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Arabian Gulf University in Doha yesterday.
The meeting reviewed university’s achievements and discussed its updated academic plans and programmes, its future initiatives, and how they contribute to achieving its vision and goals at the academic and administrative levels.
Addressing the event, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim bin Saleh Al Nuaimi praised the Arabian Gulf University as a leading academic institution in the field of higher education and scientific research, and its qualitative achievements, especially in the medical fields, and its introduction of the Bachelor of Nursing programme that is being offered this year.
He said that the university has become a house of expertise that includes an elite group of distinguished scientific competencies and a successful example of joint Gulf cooperation.
Al Nuaimi stressed that the meeting provides an opportunity to review the achievements and discuss the future prospects of the university’s plans and programs.
He also appreciated the university’s role in directing Gulf youth towards critical and creative thinking, and motivating them to develop their societies as a driving force for sustainable development and innovation.
Dr. Al Nuaimi called for developing and implementing joint research projects with leading scientific institutions in line with global challenges.
In this context, we appreciate the support of the Gulf state governments for the university, which reflects their interest in investing in science and learning as a basis for sustainable development, he said.
He also called for the development of education systems, and said that talking about artificial intelligence and the fourth industrial revolution in education systems is no longer talking about the future of education because its applications have become part of the education systems in the region.
Al Nuaimi added: “We may soon be dealing with new generations of technology beyond artificial intelligence, as we find augmented and virtual reality, three-dimensional printing, big data, nano-technology, and other fields of artificial intelligence that have imposed their presence in a way that calls on us to develop our educational systems in the Gulf.
President of the Arabian Gulf University, Dr. Saad Saud M AlFahaid reviewed the university’s achievements, especially in the medical field, noting in this context that the university’s College of Medicine has graduated 3,500 male and female doctors in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, in addition to 174 male and female doctors who will graduate in 2024/ 2025, and the creation of a new bachelor’s degree in nursing among other achievements.
Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Omar Al Rawas delivered a speech in which he thanked the State of Qatar for hosting the meeting.
He also thanked the members of the Board of Trustees, praising the great work they provided to the university, stressing the importance of the topics on the meeting’s agenda, and at the same time expressing his aspirations that the meeting should come up with recommendations that strengthen the Board of Trustees’ progress and achieve the university’s vision and mission.
