New York--US stocks dropped in opening trade Tuesday, giving back some of the prior session gains as volatility in equity markets stays elevated.
Five minutes into trade, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 17,888.83, down 87.48 points (0.49 percent).
The broad-based S&P 500 fell 9.62 (0.46 percent) to 2,076.62, while the tech-rich Nasdaq Composite Index lost 20.73 (0.42 percent) at 4,926.71.
US stocks have been choppy thus far in 2015 as investors ponder US monetary policy, Greece's prospects for staying in the eurozone and the big drop in oil prices.
The S&P 500 fell 2.2 percent last week after rising 2.7 percent the prior week.
