Doha: Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani witnessed yesterday the signing of a contract to establish and operate the Doha Winter Wonderland project between Qatari Diar, Qatar Tourism and Elegancia Group.
The project will be ready starting from 2022 on Al Maha Island in Lusail city.
His Excellency laid the foundation stone for the Doha Winter Wonderland project, and listened to an explanation about the project, which extends over an area of 200,000sqm, and includes six areas for amusement games and marine sports, in addition to a marine club, family chalets, and an area for parties and various events.
The signing ceremony was attended by a number of Their Excellencies Ministers and senior officials, including Minister of Finance, H E Ali bin Ahmed Al Kuwari; Minister of Commerce and Industry, H E Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Qassim Al Thani; Chairman of the Board of Directors of Qatari Diar, H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani; President of Qatar Tourism, H E Akbar Al Baker; CEO of Qatari Diar, Eng. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah; Chairman of the Elegancia Group, Moataz Al Khayat, and CEO of IMG for the Middle East and North Africa, Frank Guinari, along other dignitaries.
The “Doha Winter Wonderland” project, proposed by Qatari Diar, is being implemented by Elegancia Group which won this investment opportunity to finance, implement and operate the project.
The project is being implemented on an area of 200,000sqm on Al Maha Island, located on the eastern of the coast of the Marina and Tarfa Lusail area. It is an area combining a group of international hotels and tourist facilities and the new luxury shopping centre Place Vendôme. The project is scheduled to be ready before the start of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
The Doha Winter Wonderland project includes six gaming areas with more than 50 world-class games for different ages. IMG - International Marketing Group will be operating the project.
The project includes a beach club, family chalets, a public area for holding various parties and events, a sports area, restaurants and cafes, as well as a walkway and a huge car park where all services are available to ensure a unique tourist experience for visitors of different nationalities and age groups.
As the FIFA World Cup Qatar is approaching, it will be a new tourist destination whereas Qatar Tourism is working jointly with Qatari Diar to take the necessary steps and initiatives to develop and revitalize the sector by involving investors in the development of the project. This huge project in the modern city of Lusail, is considered as an important addition to the country’s entertainment facilities.
“This project, which will be a qualitative addition to tourism projects in the State of Qatar, is more than just a games area. It is rather an integrated entertainment destination comparable to the most famous international entertainment cities,” said H E Akbar Al Baker, President of Qatar Tourism while commenting on the developing project.
He added: “This project will be a valued addition to the entertainment destination to the growing list of global tourist destinations in Qatar. It will serve both those inside the State of Qatar and visitors during the next five years, especially during the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022. The project is planned to be launched before the start of the World Cup next year.”

The Chairman of Qatari Diar, Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Jassim Al Thani, said, “Once the project is completed, it will not be a tourist attraction targeting domestic tourism only, but will also go beyond that to become a remarkable and distinctive addition to the growing list of world-class tourist destinations in Qatar.”
Eng. Abdullah bin Hamad Al Attiyah, CEO of Qatari Diar pointed out that, “Lusail City is planned to be the city of the future, embracing social diversity and advanced infrastructure, besides integrated services, including governmental and private sector services. As well large local and international institutions and entities will be operating, adding a new entertainment destination with international standards. Doha Winter Wonderland will add a new competitive advantage to the city and will provide an outlet for residents and visitors.”
