Envoy attends bowling tournament as part of Indonesian I-Day celebrations

DOHA: Indonesian Ambassador to Qatar Air Marshal (Ret) Muhammad Basri Sidehabi took part in bowling  tournament recently as part of the 73rd anniversary of Indonesian independence, which will be celebrated on August 17.

In his speech, the envoy welcomed the tournament which promoted sports, fitness and a healthy lifestyle, also to strengthen the relationship and cooperation amongst the communities. The event would provide the Indonesian community the opportunity to involve in sport competition.

He added that the tournament is also a part of a multi-layered diplomacy which enhances bilateral relations between Indonesia and Qatar. The Envoy urges the players that it is not only about victory, but mostly about strengthening friendship and fraternity amongst communities.

The opening ceremony was marked by bowling performed by  the Envoy and followed by Andi Una, Chairwoman of Indonesian Women’s Organisation in Qatar (Perwiq). The winners of men single bowling competition are as follows: the first winner is  Endang Kuswaya;  the second  Muhamad Tofu Taufiq; and the third,  Boy Dharmawan. While the winners for women single category  are, the first winner is Soraya AlYahya; the second, Mutia and the third, Andi Indah.   

According to head of steering committee, Muhamad Yusuf, tournament will take place throughout summer holiday which include badminton, table tennis, bowling and several other traditional games. Some of the tournement are open to all Indonesian citizens including children and adults, men and women. The event was organised in collaboration with the Indonesian Community Organisation in Qatar (Permiqa) led by Prihandoko.

According to Indonesian Embassy official, Boy Dharmawan, the celebration provides an opportunity for Indonesian community to promote the positive image of Indonesia in Qatar. He added the tournament is not only as Indonesian community’s continuous support to the 2022 World Cup  preparation held in Qatar but also to promote the 18th Asian Games, which will be held in Jakarta and Palembang of Indonesia from August 18 to September 2, 2018.
