Doha: The Analysis and Outreach Hub at the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict announced the launch of the Arabic version of the introductory online training course "Introduction to Children and Armed Conflict."

The course, which is being held in collaboration with the United Nations System Staff College during a virtual event on July 17, 2025, aims to raise awareness and build capacity regarding the agenda for protecting children affected by armed conflict.

In a statement, the Office indicated that the course provides participants from United Nations staff, governments, regional organizations, civil society, and academic institutions with the opportunity to learn about grave violations committed against children during conflict, such as recruitment, sexual violence, killing and maiming, abduction, attacks on schools and hospitals, and denial of humanitarian assistance.

It explained that to enhance access to the course in the Arab region and beyond, the State of Qatar has contributed to making it available in Arabic.

Head of Analysis and Outreach Hub at the Office of the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Children and Armed Conflict Dawood Al-Masri pointed to the alarming increase in the number of violations against children.

According to the 2024 report of the UN Secretary-General, 41,370 grave violations against children were verified, the highest number recorded since the establishment of this mandate nearly 30 years ago.

This represents a 25 percent increase compared to 2023, and marks the third consecutive year with alarmingly high numbers.
