Doha: The Cultural Village Foundation (Katara) is launching today the works of the 7th General Assembly of the Global Public Diplomacy Network (GPDNet), with the participation of 14 members along with seven new candidate countries.
GPDNet, founded in 2014 in Seoul, is a platform that contributes to international community through cultural and civil society initiatives by sharing knowledge and encouraging cooperation. This year’s assembly will run from November 29 to December 1.
The 7th General Assembly will be divided into three-day session. It is scheduled to witness fundamental changes in the development of the network’s structure, as well as laying out a vision for the network’s strategy in expanding areas of cooperation, in a way that institutionalises the network and enhances its position, strength and effectiveness internationally through new participations, attracting more members and developing the task of the organization, which will reflect positively on achieving the goals of all member states.
The assembly will also witness the joining of seven new countries to the network including Bulgaria, Albania, Romania, Tajikistan, Ghana, Rwanda and Palestine, bringing the number of members to now 29. The conference will also discuss the initiative launched by Katara to transform the GPDNet into an international organization.
Moreover, it will launch a series of projects, most notably the “Digital Diplomacy” project presented by the Katara.
Qatar obtained its membership in the GDPNet in 2017 and received its presidency from Turkey on May 4, 2019, becoming the first Arab country to chair this international organisation since its establishment in 2014.
