Doha: Qatar Stars League (QSL) Eljaish will seek to maintain their unbeaten when they take on Al Gharafa in the tenth round match here today.
Razvan Lucescu’s side is leading the league with 21 points from nine matches and is the only team which is yet to lose a QSL match this season.
Eljaish’s rival Al Gharafa coached by Brazilian legend Zico are in the fifth place with 14 points.
But Lucescu knows he will have to be wary of Al Gharafa.
“Gharafa have scored nine goals in two games so we are well aware just how tough this is going to be,” the Romanian said.
“We have shown some great fighting spirit this season to remain undefeated. Even if we are only winning games 1-0 then it’s enough to keep our ambitions on track,” he added.
Al Gharafa coach Zico insisted that the QSL race is still wide open.
“Eljaish are contenders for the title, I don’t have any doubts about that. Their position in the table should be an encouragement for us. We look at them at the top of the table and hope the same is possible for ourselves,” said Zico.
“We need some consistency on the park if we want to keep picking up points. This is what Eljaish have done and this is what we need to look to do,” he added.
Meanwhile, Al Khor boss Laszlo Boloni admits he is starting to stress about why his team are unable to win.
Boloni’s side have lost just two league games, but a poor return of just eight goals has left them on just seven points in 12th position.
Today as Al Khor take on Al Ahli charity will be the focus as the QSL rallies round to raise money for the Philippines.
Both Al Ahli and QSL are teaming up to raise as much cash as possible following the devastation caused by Typhoon Yolanda.
The club will donate all ticket sales from their match with Al Khor, with QSL matching the final total.
The match kicks off at 4pm but the gates at Al Arabi Stadium will be open from 2pm. The more people who come, the more money will be raised.
Al Ahli – who were promoted to the QSL this season – are proud to boast a long-standing relationship with the Philippine community, with fans regularly involved in community initiatives and attending matches.
On the pitch, there are plenty aspects which will make this game an extremely interesting affair.
