Doha: Mohamed Khalifa Albaker yesterday clinched a comfortable victory in the Medium Tour class in the sixth round of the Longines Hathab Qatar Equestrian Tour, continuing his impressive run in the sixth season of the popular show-jumping series.
Albaker, already a three-time winner and the points leader in the Big Tour class this season, yesterday guided his 12-year-old Demilion in a couple of flawless routines at the Qatar Equestrian Federation’s Indoor Arena.
The Saudi rider and his chestnut-coloured stallion Demilion clocked 63.31 secs in the first round before registering 32.64 secs in the jump off to top the 35-entry field.
Little Lord Pezi 2, with Salman Mohamed Al Emadi in the saddle, clocked the second fastest time without errors, 64.09 and 34.08. Seasoned French rider Cyrine Cherif led I’am Moerhoeve’s Princess Z to third place in 69.33 & 36.64 secs while making no faults.
The Medium Tour team event was won by Al Salam Store, which included riders Mubarak Yousuf Al Rumaihi, Abdullah Ali Al Ajeil and Mohamed Abdulla Juma. Al Rumaihi and Al Ajeil led their team to victory with a total time of 130.72 secs.
Qatar Armed Forces finished second, while Alfardan came third.
In the Small Tour, Sultan Salem Al Naemi clinched his second win in a row with Higgs when the young rider guided the Al Shaqab-owned 10-year-old mare in two flawless rides in 38.16 and 26.55 secs. Mohamed Yousef Al Jaber came second with Gerlin VD Waterkant, while Mohamed Nasser Al Qadi was third astride Galwaybay Merbreaker.
Today, Open Class contest will kick-off the day's events at 2:00pm. The Big Tour round of the sixth leg of the series will begin at 4:50pm.
