QRCS hosts GCC Red Crescent meeting

Doha: Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has hosted the third meeting of senior officials of Red Crescent Societies in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in Doha yeterday
The two-day meeting will be attended by representatives of GCC Red Crescent Societies, including Dr Fawzi Al Amin (Bahrain), Mohamed bin Hamoud Al Dhahli (Oman), Anwar Abdullah Al Hassawi (Kuwait), Hamid Al Shamasi (UAE), and Prince Abdullah bin Faisal Al Saud (Saudi Arabia).
Other attendees include Mohsen Mubarak Al Dossari and Badr Abdullah Al Zubairi from the GCC Secretariat-General and Dr Elias Ghanem, Mena Director, the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).
The meeting was preceded by a lecture by Dr Ghanem about the constitutional meetings of the International RCRC Movement. The guests took a tour of QRCS’s Disaster Management Information Center (DMIC).
The meeting covered a wide range of humanitarian topics of concern, including: the use of GCC logo together with the logos of individual GCC Red Crescent Societies, follow-up on the GCC efforts to improve the living conditions of Syrians in neighboring countries, the GCC humanitarian aid to Yemen, and a unified GCC position at regional and international organisations.
Regarding the IFRC 32nd Conference to be held in Geneva in December, the participants discussed aGCC coordination meeting and humanitarian exhibition, GCC nominations for committee memberships, RCRC constitutional amendments, and preparations for the 2016 UN Global Humanitarian Summit in Istanbul, Turkey.
QRCS was assigned to hold a workshop on the Seville Agreement proposed amendments.
Among the agenda items are: guidelines on the International disaster response laws, GCC proposals to promote a humanitarian culture, the academic committeeon teaching humanitarian action, the restoring family links programme, field visits, joint training, and promotion of volunteerism.
