DOHA: A campaign being organised by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to raise awareness among children about health, food and environment is attracting a large number of school students.
So far, 1,145 students from 44 schools participated in the event being held at Doha Municipality premises under the theme ‘Recycling solid waste and reusing it’.
A drawing competition and exhibition is the highlight of the event.
Awareness programmes are being held on the sidelines of the exhibition to educate children about the importance of protecting the environment from pollution.
They are also taught to rationalise consumption and how to dispose of waste to help protect the natural resources.
The programme targets students of primary and preparatory schools from Independent and private schools, said a statement.
Some recycled materials like paper, wood, plastic, cloth, metal, glass and food waste are showcased at the exhibition.
Some paintings illustrating the importance of maintaining hygiene and protecting the environment are also on display.
A model showing how to bury waste and a miniature factory of organic fertilisers are set up at the venue. The visiting students are getting colouring books.
Painting competitions are also being held on the sideline of the exhibition on the them ‘Environment Protection’. Winners will be given prizes at the end of the event.
A team from the ministry receives students on daily basis and introduces them to the purpose of the event, importance of safe environment and how to reuse solid waste.The Peninsula
