Doha Municipality records 1,520 violations at food outlets in 2021

Doha: The Health Control Section of Municipal Control Department at Doha Municipality made 36,917 inspection visits to food outlets across the municipality during this year.

The inspection visits resulted in issuing 1,520 tickets of violations related to some provisions of the Law No. 8 of 1990 regarding the regulation of human food control, said the Ministry of Municipality in a statement.

The municipality implemented decisions for closing 177 violating food outlets during the period of study. 

Reconciliations were made in 1,398 cases of violations after rectification of the situation and paying of fines by erring outlets, and 1,763 food samples were taken to the laboratory to ensure their compliance with the specifications.

The department’s complaints team also received 785 complaints, and they were answered within 24 hours from the date of receiving them. 

A total of 2,763 food-handlers from food outlets were also educated about the importance of maintaining the health and safety of food rules and of healthy and safe food handling methods. The food establishments participating in the events and festivals held during the pervious period were supervised as well. 

The inspectors also supervised food establishments at stadiums which hosted FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2021 matches, represented by the Director of the Municipal Control Department as team leader and the membership of inspectors from various health control departments in the municipalities. The department’s veterinary team inspected 351 tonnes of fish in Corniche area and destroyed 73kg of fish after it found unfit for human consumption.
