The fatalities were identified as Police Officer 3 Christopher Requina and Jose Hino-Ursunal and the patrol car’s civilian driver Rick Caruana.

The three died after the patrol car plunged into a 40-foot deep ravine in Barangay Mantalognogn around 3am.

Reports said that the policemen were on their way back to the Dalaguete police station after providing security in a festival.

Yellow alert raised over La Mesa dam

MANILA: A yellow alert was raised over La Mesa dam in Novaliches, Quezon City as its water elevation neared the spilling level due to isolated rainshowers, the state weather bureau said yesterday.

Oyie Pagulayan, hydrologist at the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), said the dam’s water level stood at 79.35m as of 6am yesterday, or just 0.80m below its spilling level of 80.15m.

“The water level in La Mesa dam rose due to isolated rainshowers, but we continue monitoring and once the water level reaches 79.53m, it will be raised to red alert status,” Pagulayan said.

She said that the dam has no gates and the excess water spills into the Tullahan River, which flows through the northern part of Quezon City, including the Fairview and Novaliches areas, as well as to the cities of Malabon, Valenzuela, and Caloocan.

Meanwhile, as of 6am yesterday, the water level of Binga dam in Benguet reached 571.89m or below the dam’s 575m water level and opened one gate at 0.3m.

Binga’s water flows downstream to the San Roque dam in Pangasinan, which can contain the water spillage.

San Roque Dam’s water level stood at 269.61m as of 6am yesterday, or way below its normal 280.00m level.

PAGASA said as of 6am yesterday, the water level at Ipo and Angat dams, both in Bulacan, reached 100.75m and 210.25m, respectively, both above normal high levels of 100.20m and 210.00m.
