Qatar University (QU) in cooperation with the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy, held three seminars to introduce the volunteering programme for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, under the title “Be at the heart of the tournament.” The seminars aims to introduce QU members to the mechanism of volunteering for the World Cup, and joining the programme that will allow volunteering in more than 30 job fields.
During the seminars, several introductory pavilions were allocated for volunteering in several locations at the university, including the Student Activities Building for Boys, the Library Building - Girls’ Section, and the Lectures Building - Girls.
The volunteer team the SC gave an extensive explanation of the World Cup history, its origin and a story of the World Cup mascot.
The event also included a detailed explanation of how to apply for the volunteer programme via the website.
In his statement about the university’s organization of introductory seminars, Dr. Hassan Al-Derham, President of Qatar University, said: “For years, we have been waiting for this international sporting event, preparing for it, and harnessing all efforts to make it a success. Today, the International Football Association (FIFA) welcomes the establishment of the “It’s Time” event to introduce the World Cup volunteer programme, which includes 20,000 volunteers to help Qatar in this event. This programme is perhaps the largest in the country.”
Dr. Al Derham added: “The university also welcomes the choice of the Argentine national team to Qatar University as the headquarters for its team, after a delegation from the team visited the university and reviewed its sports facilities and housing units.”
In his speech during the event, Nasser Al Mughaisib, Director of Volunteering Strategy Department at the SC said: “I was pleased to be at Qatar University, which is always our first reference in launching and presenting events for students. We are currently focusing on making volunteers from citizens and residents in The State of Qatar is in the first row in any voluntary phase of the Volunteer Program for the 2022 World Cup.”
Al Mughaisib added: “Always remember that you are the basis of this programme in volunteering, as we provide community service to the State of Qatar, and volunteers will be integrated with expert volunteers from all over the world, which will provide them great skills and experience.”
The volunteer team also touched on introducing the “Hayyahum” programme. The programme was developed for non-Arabic speakers wishing to learn the Arabic language. The team also indicated that the requirement to speak English fluently for those wishing to volunteer has been abolished.
