Berlin: Google has revealed details of its latest Android operating system for mobile devices, but the name is still secret.
One of the main features in the new version, code-named N, is multi-window support which allows two apps to be displayed simultaneously side by side or with one on top of the other.
The Android developers name each interation after confectionery in alphabetical order. L was Lollipop and the current M is better known as Android Marshmallow. What N stands for has not been announced.
New in the system is direct reply notifications, which will allow users to reply to incoming message notifications without leaving the notification shade. Android N also includes a function to reduce data traffic when roaming or when your data allowance is running low.
When Data Saver is activated it seeks to restrict the data consumption of apps, whether they’re running in the background or the foreground. Users can add selected apps to a whitelist if they don’t want them to be restricted.
Google has also added more space for buttons in its Quick Settings menu bar where buttons for brightness, WiFi, Bluetooth and Airplane mode can already be found. In future the bar may also contain app symbols from which actions can be triggered or settings changed.
