Seedlings of wild trees set ready for distribution by Al Shamal Municipality.
Doha: Al Shamal Municipality has launched a campaign to distribute seedlings of wild trees to citizens to enhance the greenery across the country.
The campaign which aims at increasing the greenery across the municipality is being implemented by Services Affairs Department of Al Shamal Municipality in coordination of the Public Parks Department.
Under the campaign, seedlings of various types of wild trees including Sidr, Al Ghaf, Al Athal, Al Qurt, Al Samar are being distributed, said the Ministry of Municipality in a statement.
The campaign is part of keenness of the Municipality to create awareness among citizens and expatriates about the importance of wild trees and encourage them to plant and protect these plants.
This is part of ‘Plant Million Tree’ initiative of the Ministry of Municipality and will run until January 13, 2022.
Plant Million Tree Initiative was launched by the Ministry of Municipality and Environment, under the State of Qatar’s commitment to Paris Agreement, as trees have special significance in the environmental system and reflect to the human health and lifestyle, and within the context of enhancing their initiatives on limiting the effects of climate change and environmental sustainability efforts. The Initiative, launched on the sidelines of Qatar’s First International Environmental Exhibition in March 2019, aims at promoting biodiversity, taking advantage of treated water for irrigation, improving air quality of the country and increasing the green patch in a bid to reduce gas emissions.
The initiative is open to all communities, institutions, governmental agencies, private sector, corporate sector, schools, educational entities, youth centres, sport clubs, and all citizens and expatriates.
Interested people including individuals, companies and organisations can register in the initiative through financial or in-kind support or scientific contribution, via e-mail – the Ministry’s Application on smartphones – the Initiative Section at any mall.
The initiative focuses on planting and cultivating seedlings from the Qatari environment, including Sidr, Ghaf, Samar and many more in various locations chosen for this purpose, such as the main road sites – the ring roads in Doha – Al Majd road – Al Shamal Road — Al Khor Coastal Road, industrial cities, sewage plants, treatment units and storage, rainwater harvesting sites, cities and municipal strips, public parks, schools, and residential complexes.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Municipality represented by Al Rayan Municipality recorded violations of some provisions of the public hygiene law.
A truck of ready-mix had dumped construction wastes on an undesignated place. The Ministry took the action against the erring truck owner following the laws to ensure general cleanliness and preserve desert lands and meadows.
