DOHA: With the onset of winter, the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) has launched a national campaign to raise awareness on vaccination against seasonal influenza.
It aims to raise awareness on the importance of vaccination and risks of seasonal flu, especially among the vulnerable segments.
The campaign began with a vaccination programme involving SCH employees over the past two days. The Health Promotion and Communicable Diseases Department at the SCH has set plans for all target groups to ensure maximum immunisation. The department will coordinate with entities concerned, including Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Healthcare Corporation, Sidra Medical and Research Centre, Aspetar Hospital and Qatar Red Crescent in the campaign.
The SCH will also hold a workshop for healthcare workers this week. It has advised people to take vaccination against seasonal influenza, especially the vulnerable groups who suffer from chronic diseases such as diabetes, asthma, heart and lungs diseases and kidney ailments.
Elders above 60, children between six months and five years, pregnant women and healthcare workers are also considered vulnerable groups. Seasonal flu vaccine is available at primary health centres.
