Doha: Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev witnessed the signing of several agreements between both countries yesterday.
These included an agreement on visa waiver for holders of diplomatic and special passports, a cooperation deal in the cultural and artistic fields, and a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Qatar Central Bank and National Bank of Kazakhstan.
An MoU was also signed by Qatar Development Fund (QDF) and Astana city to establish a school to be named by the Emir.
Khalifa bin Jassim Al Kuwari, General Director, QDF, inked the deal with Nurali Aliyev, Deputy Mayor of Astana City.
QDF will finance construction of the school which will accommodate up to 1,200 students.
Qatar Football Association (QFA) signed a cooperation agreement with its Kazakh counterpart, covering all aspects of the sport and ways of improving them in both countries. Saoud Al Mohannadi, QFA Vice-President and AFC Vice-President, and Yerlan Kozhagapanov, Football Federation of Kazakhstan (FFK) President, signed the agreement to promote exchange of expertise and resources and develop football in both countries. Qatar Solar Technologies (QSTec) signed an agreement with Kazatomprom, the state-owned nuclear holding company. Under the deal, Kazatomprom is a strategic shareholder at QSTec, will produce raw materials in Kazakhstan and send to Qatar to be converted into solar cells and solar panels at a later stage.
Nazarbayev also attended a meeting held between Qatari and Kazakh business delegation. Talks dealt with issues of common concern and ways of strengthening cooperation in various areas.
Sheikh Faisal bin Qassim Al Thani, Chairman, Qatari Businessmen Association (QBA), said Nazarbayev’s presence in the meeting confirms the interest of the Kazakh leadership in enhancing cooperation between both countries. He said Nazarbayev highlighted investment opportunities for Qatari businessmen in Kazakhstan such as agreements with banks, import and export issues, agricultural, animal husbandry projects and other projects that can enhance the economy of both countries. He said Qatari businessmen have great abilities and can play an important role in promoting relations, hoping the Kazakh leadership would facilitate procedures and entry of Qatari businessmen to benefit from opportunities to start projects.
Later, Nazarbayev left Doha following a state visit. He was bid farewell at Hamad International Airport by Minister of Economy and Commerce H E Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatari Ambassador to Kazakhstan Abdulla Ahmed Al Mutawa and Kazakhstan’s Ambassador to Qatar Askar Shokybayev.
