Successful handling of COVID-19 shows effective planning by govt: GCO

Doha: The Official Spokesman of the Government Communications Office (GCO) highlighted the most prominent decisions issued by the Cabinet, headed by  Prime Minister and Minister of Interior H E Sheikh Khalid bin Khalifa bin Abdulaziz Al Thani during its weekly meetings held in the month of May.

The GCO Official Spokesman, Mohammed Nuwaymi Al Hajri, in this context, touched on the Cabinet decision on May 25, 2022, which supports the achievements of the Planning and Statistics Authority and the projects of the Permanent Population Committee related to studying the demographic structure of the country with the aim of developing policies and programmes related to it.

He also noted the Cabinet’s approval of a draft decision of  the Minister of Municipality to regulate the use of plastic bags by institutions, companies and shopping centres, stressing that this step comes within the framework of the government’s keenness to implement the strategic goals to preserve the environment, which fall within the comprehensive national vision 2030.

The Official Spokesman also highlighted the Cabinet’s decision dated May 18, 2022, to lift restrictions imposed on people’s entry to all closed public places due to Coronavirus pandemic, after listening to an explanation by the Minister of Public Health on the developments in controlling the pandemic, and after reviewing a report by the Supreme Committee for Crisis Management regarding gradual lifting of restrictions plan. 

Al Hajri stressed that the great success of Qatar in controlling the pandemic proves once again the effectiveness of the performance of government institutions and the accuracy of planning and coordination among them.

He also touched upon the Cabinet's approval in its session on May 11, 2022, of a draft decision on the basis and controls for the increase in the prices of goods and services, which comes within the framework of the government's keeping pace with economic and commercial developments and changes, ensuring the effectiveness and balance of markets, maintaining the purchasing power of individuals' income and reducing the burden on them, as well as reducing price hikes, and addressing any form of unjustified rises in the prices of goods and services, especially the basic ones.
