Qatar Forum for Authors celebrates International Day of Education

Doha: The Qatari Forum for Authors has celebrated the International Day of Education, which falls on January 24 every year, with the aim of emphasising the importance of education in social development in  countries, improving the quality of education, and protecting the rights of every male and female student in all parts of the world.

To talk about this occasion, the forum hosted writer and researcher Mervat Ibrahim, author of the book The Use of Communication Technology and the Future Role of the State of Qatar from a Distance, who discussed the idea of her writing that came from her realisation of the paramount importance of information technology, and Qatar’s future role in distance education, stressing that interest in education achieves sustainable development and its goals, and goes  in line with Qatar Vision 2030.

Meanwhile the researcher pointed to the role of media in the awareness-raising process, which is essentially a social responsibility entrusted with all members of society, pointing out that the design of the book’s cover came to confirm the link between education and the 17 United Nations goals pertaining to development.

In her remarks, Mervat Ibrahim also addressed the indicators that Qatar has achieved at the global level in the field of education, as it ranks first in the Arab world and fourth globally in the quality of education, praising at the same time the ability of the State of Qatar to use technology in the field of education in the shadow of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, as it has set up a large number of educational platforms with the aim of giving students the opportunity to learn and not to stop learning, in addition to ensuring that their health is not endangered. 

She explained the benefits of distance education despite talk about some of its negative aspects, referring in this regard to the State of Qatar’s keenness on attracting the best competencies to work as teachers. She also touched on the importance of matching the labour market with the specializations it needs and the benefiting from the special abilities of students.
