Delegates look at miniature postal vehicles during the 25th Universal Postal Congress at QNCC. Shaival Dalal
DOHA: Around 400 scale models of postal vehicles from around the world are being showcased at the three-week long 25th Universal Postal Congress which opened at the Qatar National Convention Centre on Monday.
The exhibition is the first of its kind which was held at the Congress since the United Postal Union’s founding, according to Daniel Le Goff, director of Logistics at the UPU.
Le Goff said the idea of the exhibition came from Abdul Rahman Al Aqaily, chairman of the Congress and director general of QPost, and the matchbox vehicles were contributed by various collectors.
The collection, which represents postal vehicles dating back as early as first part of the 20th century, depicts the diversity of postal vehicles used in various countries such as Austria, France, Belgium, US, Poland, Malta, Australia, Ireland, Italy and the Netherlands.
With their colour and rarity, the tiny vehicles mostly linked to mail and passenger transport never fail to attract the attention of every delegate to the Congress.
