Minister reviews environmental research of Qatar Science and Technology Park entities

Doha, Qatar: Minister of Environment and Climate Change H E Sheikh Dr. Faleh bin Nasser bin Ahmed bin Ali Al Thani visited Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) of Qatar Foundation yesterday.

The visit aimed to see the efforts of the companies operating in QSTP, within the framework of preserving the environment, achieving sustainable development through solar energy, and reducing carbon footprints of the means of production.

The Minister was accompanied by Executive Director of QSTP Yousuf Abdulrahman Saleh and a number of officials from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change (MoECC).

The tour included the Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center, the Total Solar Energy Research Center, and the Gulf Organization for Research and Development (GORD) for Building Sustainability and Carbon Footprint.

During the tour, the Minister of Environment and Climate Change was briefed about the efforts of QSTP and the companies working with it in developing technological means and technologies that contribute to Qatar’s national strategy for environment and climate change.

He was also briefed on research being carried out by “Total” Center for Sustainable Development, in the fields of solar energy, biological monitoring, “water quality assessment”, biodiversity, and carbon sequestration, storage and utilisation.

The Minister was also acquainted with research by Qatar Shell Research and Technology Center for developing and providing added value for liquefied gas products in the Pearl project, and developing its sustainability by focusing on used water.

The visit also included viewing the efforts of other research centres of a number of these companies, to preserve the environment, reduce carbon emissions, achieve a reduction in carbon emissions, and work to achieve sustainable development in all sectors of work in Qatar.

The visit aimed to identify the capabilities and efforts of these research centres, with the aim of discussing ways of cooperation and joint coordination between MoECC and research centres operating in QSTP, as well as identifying aspects and methods of exchanging scientific expertise and training human cadres in the same field.

The visit comes within the framework of MoECC’s vision of the importance of reviewing the research and efforts of national institutions working in the field of environment, and benefiting from the scientific research of all parties, to unify joint action between all state agencies to achieve Qatar’s national vision for environment and climate change.
