DOHA: Dreama (The Orphans Care Center) organised a training course for specialists, care providers and surrogate families as part of their project (Stable Families) which is prepared by Dreama to assist the Surrogate families.

Training was based on how to inform the orphan child on his/ her social status and how to use the best psychological and educational methods. Also on the development of social and psychological skills so the child can live and coexist in the society in the light of his knowledge of his/ her social status.

The course is offered by Dr Wadad Al-Issa, a psychological and family consultant, which aims to raise the efficiency of care providers to the orphaned children and enablement of Surrogate Families and specialists to support and develop the needs of the orphan child and inform him of his social status before and after the adoption in a step-by-step manner as he grows up from childhood to youth.

The course presents how to deal with orphaned child methodology including who is the child of the institution?, how to inform him/her of his/her social status? How we can help him/ her achieve a personal identity? It also addresses the importance of understanding the childhood and the child’s psychological and social development needs and understanding the skills needed to deal with him and how we help him to accept himself and understand the factors shaping his/her self-esteem and how he/she could achieve psychological and social security and the characteristics of the foster mother.

Dr Wadad Al-Issa spoke about the importance of selecting positive words while talking to the child, the importance of promoting self-confidence in our children and pushing them forward with encouragement positive behaviours and parents to be patient and loving during education. Also to allow a large space for children to practice identities as well as develop their abilities which helps in the formation a generation loving of learning and development.

Maryam Bint Ali bin Nasser Al-Misnad, the Executive Director of The Orphans Care Center – DREAMA said, “It is hoped that this course will be useful in training Surrogate families and specialists to support the needs of orphans and prepare them to conform with their social status by following the methods to adapt psychologically and socially with his status in society at an early age, while securing psychological conditions and social status so that he does not feel different from others or feel inferior. This is because informing a child when he or she reaches teenage years can expose them to a psychological shock or problems and behavioural deviations as confirmed by many studies and statistics”.

It is worth noting that this course is organized at DREAMA’s on the third Thursday of every month starting from Thursday October 18. The course will be held in two sessions (Morning from 9am to 1pm for care providers) and (Evening 5pm to 8pm for surrogate families).
