Ankara: Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed, in a phone call on Sunday with Secretary General of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) Jens Stoltenberg, the latest developments in Russia and Sweden's accession to NATO.
During the phone call, Erdogan hoped that the latest developments in Russia would be a new milestone in the path to a just peace in Ukraine, Directorate of Communications of Turkish presidency outlined in a statement.
Regarding Sweden's accession to NATO, the statement said the legislative changes in Sweden would be meaningless, as long as supporters of PKK, PYD and YPG groups organize actions against Turkiye.
The statement added that within the context of the F-35s and the attempts to associate Turkiye's requests about the F-16s with Sweden's membership would harm NATO and its security rather than Turkiye.
For his part, NATO Secretary General tweeted regarding his phone call with the Turkish president and said that NATO is closely working with Turkiye on Sweden's accession to NATO.
