DOHA: The Embassy of India and Indian Sports Centre celebrated 4th International Day of Yoga on June 23 at Qatar Sports Club. More than 400 enthusiastic Yoga practitioners of various expatriate communities including Ambassadors of Sri Lanka, Nepal, Argentina, Belgium, Vietnam, Korea and Ecuador participated, said a release.
The event started with the video message on 4th International Day of Yoga from the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, highlighting the specialities of yoga and its benefits for a long and healthy life.
A video message from Sheikha Athba Al Thani, emphasizing the importance of yoga in everyone’s life was played before the start of the yoga session. An artistic yoga presentation was demonstrated by Ashish, Bandana and Vikash, which was followed by a session based on the common yoga protocol and comprise of various standing and sitting postures, pranayama and breathing techniques followed by meditation.
P Kumaran, the Ambassador of India to Qatar, has highlighted about the support of Qatar to the United Nations General Assembly resolution in declaring the International Day of Yoga and support given by the Ministry of Sports and Culture in conducting International Day of Qatar at Qatar since its inception from 2015 onwards.
He also emphasized about the importance of yoga for a healthy and active life.
Mohamed Ahmed Al Uthman, Director of Sports Affairs, the Ministry of Sports & Culture, was the Chief Guest of the programme and appreciated Indian Embassy and the Indian community for their initiative in promoting yoga in Qatar.
The common yoga protocol session was conducted by Nisha Agrawal explaining the benefits and constraints of each type of yoga. The programme was compered by Anu Sharma and vote of thanks was given by Nilangshu Dey, the President of Indian Sports Centre.
