Stafford Sri Lankan School: Striving for excellence

Doha; A new chapter of Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha begun this month with a groundbreaking ceremony held to mark the beginning of constructing a new building.

The state-of-the-art school complex is expected to be completed on the plot of land allocated by the government of Qatar for the construction of Sri Lankan community school in Thumama area soon.

Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha, a non-profitable community school, was established for the children of Sri Lankan expatriates living in Qatar, under the patronage and supervision of the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Doha in 2001. Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha is affiliated with the embassy.

A total of 1,425 students are enrolled at Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha at present. Most of them are from the Sri Lankan community but students from other nationalities are also enrolled.  At present Stafford Sri Lankan School, Doha is functioning in a rented building and will move to the new place after completion of new buildings for the school.

The new building will be constructed in 10,000 square meters plot of land. “Over the years, a larger premises was needed to accommodate a steadily growing student population. The students will soon be able to reap the benefits of their dream school,”  said Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Qatar A S P Liyanage.

A 20-member board of trustees headed by Roshan Balasoorya, a chartered accountant, are managing the Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha since July.

The new committee will ensure the speedy completion of the new state-of-the-art school complex, according to Liyanage, who is also the patron of the  school.

Stafford Sri Lankan School Doha offers education from Lower Reception to Advanced Level. The school follows the London Edexcel Curriculum.  

All these curricular and co-curricular activities direct towards the total development of the student’s personality to suit the international community.

The assessment system includes both internal and external assessments. Students are assessed internally through monthly and semester examinations, continuous homework and class assignments, according to Sivapragasam Sivam, Principal of the school.
