JEREZ, SPain: Qatar Motor and Motorcycling Federation (QMMF) President Nasser bin Khalifa Al Attiyah has pledged to take bike racing to all corners of Asia after being reelected as Vice President of International Motorcycling Federation (FIM).
Al Attiyah was reelected by bagging 68 out of 102. The win means Al Attiyah will keep his post, which he held from 2010 to 2014, for another term.
The QMMF President expressed his delight with the win, saying its a win for Qatar and the Arab world. He added that the win reflected the trust he gained from the members during his previous term.
“First of all, I dedicate this achievement to the Emir, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani who always offers his unlimited support when it comes to backing sport,” Al Attiyah said.
“We take this opportunity to promise the Emir of more achievements,” he added.
Al Attiyah said: “The most job for the next four years will be - as I said before on several occasions - developing true teamwork and good communication. No doubt we will try harder to promote bike racing all over Asia as I belong to this continent which became one of the advanced continents in this sport. This progress is the result of sincere efforts of the heads of clubs and federations who seek to host local and international championships across the continent.”
Al Attiyah said he ‘will work together with European continent as exchange of ideas and experience since Europe has good history in the sport.’
Al Attiyah said he would also reach out to Latin American countries to promote the sport, saying ‘communication remained key to progress in all areas’.
“I would like to congratulate my dear friend Mr Vito Ippolito. He really is a person who deserves this position. I will always stand beside him in order to promote this sport. As for my winning, I can’t describe my feelings in words.
“I would like also to say that I am not the only person who achieved this success but all those who stand beside me, they deserve all thanks and gratitude.
“I promise that I will do my best to meet their trust and confidence, and will always be at the service of this sport regardless of any other considerations, as we are one big group living together as a family,” Al Attiyah said. He paid tribute to Arab federations, who Al Attiyah said were an important voting bloc that helped him win another term as Vice President of FIM.
Al Attiyah will continue in his post which he first won at FIM elections in Macau in 2010 when he bagged an unprecedented 70 votes out of 94.
The General Assembly of FIM witnessed the attendance of 104 representatives out of 109 member countries.
