LONDON: England seamer Stuart Broad was set to fly out to Australia yesterday for the upcoming Ashes series, having signed a new three-year deal with county side Nottinghamshire.
The 27-year-old, also a useful lower-order batsman, is centrally contracted to the England and Wales Cricket Board and, as a result, rarely turns out for the Trent Bridge-based county.
However, the new agreement means he is set to stay with Midlands side Nottinghamshire until 2016 and will be activated in full should Broad lose his place in the England squad.
Broad, who joined Nottinghamshire from neighbouring in Leicestershire in 2008, said yesterday: “It’s been a massive year for me. It started with winning the Ashes, and ended with bringing home the Yorkshire Bank 40 trophy to Nottingham. I’m really looking forward to the next three years and bringing more success to Trent Bridge.”
