UAE April inflation slows to 4.2 pct y/y

The United Arab Emirates National Bureau of Statistics has released the following April consumer price data, showing annual inflation slowed down slightly after hitting a six-year high in March.

NOTE. Housing and utility costs, which account for over 39 percent of consumer expenses, jumped 9.2 percent from a year earlier in April. The emirate of Abu Dhabi, the biggest emirate in the UAE, hiked electricity and water tariffs from Jan. 1, while the real estate market has been rising strongly. Food and soft drink prices, which account for nearly 14 percent of the basket, edged up 0.9 percent.
