Kings XI Punjab defeat Delhi Daredevils by 5 wickets

New Delhi: After Kings XI Punjab’s Harmeet Singh and Praveen Kumar restricted Delhi Daredevils to 120/7, David Miller (34*) and Mandeep Singh (24) batted sensibly to contribute in visitors’ 5-wicket win at the Feroz Shah Kotla yesterday.

Mandeep got the chase off to a sensational start and pushed the pedal from the moment he lost his skipper and opening partner Adam Gilchrist (6). The early strike - in the first over of the chase - by the Delhi bowlers was blunted by the young batsman from Jalandhar who hit 5 boundaries to silence the local supporters.

This after Harmeet and Praveen had already claimed five wickets between them to ensure that the target was kept relatively low.

Such was the nature of the chase that despite a required run-rate of 6 at the start of the second innings, Mandeep went on the offensive from the second over itself - hitting Ashish Nehra for three back-to-back boundaries.

The barrage of shots continued unabated with even Irfan Pathan being taken to the cleaners. Luke Pomersbach (18) took the cue from Mandeep and played some exquisite shots of his own to add to Delhi’s woes. AGENCIES
