Doha: The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) yesterday held an orientation workshop at its headquarters, attended by coordinators of community offices.
The workshop was held in collaboration with the American Centre for International Labour Solidarity to unify views on human rights issues, means of redressing complaints and addressing issues related to human rights and how to deal with the issues.
The NHRC seeks to ease the means of communication with the complainants. Opening the offices for expatriate communities at the headquarters has made great contribution to the process of addressing complaints, Jaber Al Huwail, Director, Legal Affairs, NHRC, said in his opening speech at the workshop.
He said this is one of the means of delivering justice and fairness.
Al Huwail shed light on the existing legislation for settling problems facing workers in Qatar.
The coordinators of the communities based at the headquarters must be aware of the provisions of Qatari laws regulating entry, exit and residence of expatriates and the labour law, said Hala Al Ali, Legal Expert, NHRC. The coordinators are a source of information for their community members and play the role of liaison or link between NHRC and the complainants, Al Ali added.
He said the coordinators can benefit from these rules and regulations to protect the rights of fellow community members within the laws regulating their activities and the work of NHRC. The workshop discussed guidelines set for the work of the coordinators. It is voluntary work under the supervision of the Department of Legal Affairs of NHRC, the committee said in a statement. The Peninsula
