Kadupul edges Pom Malpic in a thrilling finish.
Doha: Al Wasmiyah Farm’s Kadupul, with Tom Marquand in the saddle, made a late surge to clinch a thrilling victory in the 2000m Qatar Oaks for three-year-old thoroughbred fillies, yesterday.
It was a pulsating finish to the 21st Race Meeting as Georges Mikhalides-trained Kadupul came from behind to edge Pom Malpic – saddled by Jim Crowley – just close to the finish line to seal win in the feature race at the Al Rayyan Racecourse.
The winners received $57,000 while the connection of Pom Malpic took $22,000 after finishing runners-up. Sami Jassim Al Boenain, Adviser to QREC Chairman, presented the trophies to the winners.
Earlier, Umm Qarn’s Queenshala produced a stunning pace to outclass her rivals as the Soufiane Saadi-guided filly claimed a four-length win in the Purebred Arabians (4yo fillies only). It was Saadi’s second victory of the meeting after he helmed Bercheny to Thoroughbred Maiden Plate title.
Adviser to QREC Chairman Sami Jassim Al Boenain presented the trophies to the winners of the Qatar Oaks for 4YO Purebred Arabian Fillies, yesterday.
Jockey Ronan Thomas also sealed a double yesterday after winning the Local Thoroughbreds with Queen Storm.
Thomas was victorious in Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, riding Osama Al Dafea-trained Jadeed.
The 22nd QREC Race Meeting for Qatar International Derby will see top contests in a total of ten races, today.
