Deauville: The Al Shaqab Racing-owned two-year-old Good Too got his career off to the perfect start when taking the Prix De Montaigu (Maiden) at Deauville yesterday.

Trained by Jean Claude Rouget, the colt started favourite for the 1,600m contest reserved to unraced males and was ridden to success by Cristian Demuro.

Breaking well from stall four, Good Too was placed in mid-division through the early stages of the race.

Stirling (Frankel) led the eight-strong through the first half of the contest. Good Too moved well around the home turn and began to take closer order as the field turned in to the straight. Angled off the rail at the top of the run-in Good Too began to close up the centre of the track. Good Too took the lead 300m from home as Stirling began to fade. Inside the final 200m Good Too began to draw clear of the field. The colt scored by two and a half lengths from Yoozuna (Kizunza), who closed well from off the pace and stayed on to be second. Great Rotation (Siyouni) finished third.

Bred by Mrs. E.Ribard, Good Too was bought at the Arqana October Yearling sale and is from the first crop of Haras de Bouquetot’s dual Group One winning stallion Ectot (Hurricane Run). Good Too’s dam Netsuke (Aragorn) was a dual winner over 1,600m and has produced Nunzia (Epaulette), who won on debut before being placed second in a Listed race at two.
