Doha, Qatar: The Waqf Studies Center, part of the General Department of Endowments at the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, is set to hold a scholarly seminar today, Monday, at 4:30pm, focused on the newly published book “The Impact of Terminal Illness on Restricting Legal Dispositions in Islamic Jurisprudence: A Comparative Study with Civil Law” by Dr. Nazih Hammad.

The seminar is part of the Center’s “Contemporary Studies” series and will be broadcast live on the Department’s official YouTube channel: @waqfqa. This seminar marks the eighth edition of the Contemporary Studies series and reflects the Center’s ongoing commitment to deepening academic engagement with contemporary jurisprudential issues, especially those relevant to endowments (awqaf) and financial transactions in Islamic and comparative legal contexts.

The event will explore in depth the Islamic legal rulings concerning contracts and dispositions made during terminal illness (known in Arabic as marad al-mawt). These include critical transactions such as wills (wasiyyah), gifts (hiba), endowments (waqf), sales, leases, acknowledgments, debts, and testimonies.

Dr. Nazih Hammad will present the findings of his book, which analyzes these legal instruments through both Islamic jurisprudence and comparative civil law perspectives.
