Doha, Qatar: Qatar is participating in meetings of the 154th session of the Executive Council of World Health Organization (WHO), which began yesterday, in Geneva, and will continue until January 27.

Qatar’s delegation is headed by Minister of Public Health and Chairman of the Executive Council of WHO, H E Dr. Hanan Al Kuwari.

In the opening speech, the Minister noted that the informal meeting of WHO Executive Council, which was held in  Qatar during in December, allowed for an in-depth review of some priority issues in the current session of the Executive Council.

She explained that these issues are of great importance in shaping the global health agenda and strengthening governance in the future.

She said that the Executive Council meeting is being held at a very difficult time that the world is going through, as conflicts are occurring in different countries, health facilities are affected and often destroyed, and a number of professionals working in the field of health have been injured or died.

The Minister noted that the members of the Executive Council held a special session on December 10 to discuss the conflict in Palestine and reached a consensus on a resolution calling for, among other issues, ensuring respect and protection for all medical and humanitarian workers in the region.
