After gaining 1.5 percent Thursday, 10 minutes into trade the Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 8.03 points (0.05 percent) at 17,805.95.
The S&P 500 slipped 2.05 (0.10 percent) to 2,061.10.
But the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite pushed higher, adding to Thursday's 1.8 percent gain another 4.56 points (0.10 percent) at 4,754.96.
