Doha: Qatar Diabetes Association (QDA), a member of Qatar Foundation (QF), is holding the 22nd International Diabetes Camp (Al Bawasil) virtually. The event will conclude on December 22.
Over three days, 40 children with diabetes, aged 7 to 11, from 9 diabetes associations from Qatar, Sudan, Egypt, Algeria, Morocco, Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon, and Pakistan have a fully interactive camp experience, meet other children living with type 1 and the qualified medical team of QDA, to have an amazing opportunity to learn about diabetes including self-monitoring blood glucose, insulin injection, insulin pump, carb counting, foot care, and exercise and diabetes.
The children will also share experiences and enjoy games and quizzes. Dr Abdulla Al Hamaq, executive director, QDA, said, “Despite COVID-19 circumstances we are happy to be able to continue to support our children living with diabetes through many ways. The QDA online camps allow the children to engage in the learning process and in the discussions of diabetes management with our medical team. We’re bringing the spirit of the residential camps right into their own homes as some of them have never been to a camp in person.”
The first Al Bawasil camp organised by the Qatar Diabetes Association was held in January 1999, and has been held every year since then, and is now one of the most important camp for children living with diabetes in the Middle East and North Africa region.
