Though population of Ecuadorians in Doha is small in numbers yet they are a vibrant community.  Their presence in Qatar is very prominent as well. Among them, Sylvie Maalouf (pictured) followed her husband to Qatar like many others but since her arrival in country in 2010, Sylvie has contributed a prominent role to Qatar’s development through her profession.

She worked as an economic expert at the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics, when the first National Development Strategy 2011-2016 was drafted and launched.

“I worked with the Ministry from 2010 to 2016. I was involved in working on the economic chapters of the strategy,” said Sylvie.

The National Development Strategy 2011-2016 aimed at paving the way for Qatar’s economic, social, cultural, and environmental development, leading to an even more prosperous Qatar and setting the pace for future national strategies to follow.

In 2016, Sylvie took over the position as Associate Director, Account and Business Development, Governmental and Public Sector in MENA region at Ernst & Young. Being here for almost nine years, Qatar is second home for Sylvie. “My two children were born here. Qatar is home for them,” she said.

“Qatar’s development in the past several years is phenomenal. The opportunities and choices have expanded widely. It is a little painful when the roads are under construction, but it is really incredible once the work is completed,” she added.

Sylvie admires the cultural diversity of Qatar and its uniqueness. “I like living in Qatar. I like its cosmopolitan character; you get to meet people whom you may not meet at any other place. Though Doha is a small city compared to other vibrant places but what it has to offer is not small,” she said.

The embassy of Ecuador is well connected with the community here. It embraces the community well. “Though we are a small community here, the work done by the embassy is not small. The embassy is very active, vibrant and well-connected with the community members.”
