QF unit calls for new law against domestic violence

DOHA: The Qatar Foundation for Protection of Women and Children (QFPWC) recently recommended authorities to issue a separate law against domestic violence.

At the conclusion of a two day workshop here on children’s rights the organisation also recommended a new law against domestic violence should comply with international laws and conventions. 

The workshop attended by 14 different organisations also made another five recommendations to the concern authorities. 

They recommended including child rights into school curriculum, guiding and educating family more about child rights, need to strengthen cooperation among organizations working for child protection and create more awareness through media. 

Captain Banna Al Khalfi at the awareness and media section juvenile police department in a presentation  on children and crime said that the  law protects children even if they commit a crime. 

The recent law also bans to remove children   from school, even if they commit a crime. 

Al Khalfi explained that even if a child is needed to be jailed he should be over 16 years and all criminal records of a child will be removed from records and he can live a normal life. 

QFPWC hold programmes to reduce domestic violence, provide support to the victims and introduce a system for early detection of child abuse cases.

During the workshop the QFPWC earlier announced that with an average 3.9 cases involving women and children daily, indicating the growing incidents of violence against these two most vulnerable segments of the society.
