Authorities get tough on street peddlers

DOHA: The Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning (Baladiya) of Doha in collaboration with the Investigation and Follow-up section at the Ministry of Interior recently conducted an inspection campaign against street peddlers along the Grand Hamad Street and Musheireb Area, Al Sharq has reported.

The inspection teams confiscated the goods and assured to intensify campaign in ridding Doha streets of peddlers through constant monitoring in areas frequented by them. Baladiya also called on all shops to adhere to the laws and regulations of the Municipal Ministry.

Meanwhile, during their campaigns in August, Baladiya issued 216 lots for commercial shops, 40 warnings in Doha and Central Market, 118 investigation reports referred to the police, and 80 reconciliation records. Baladiya also removed 1,098 neglected cars in Doha and conducted massive clean up campaign along the Corniche area removing unwanted debris.

In Wakrah, Baladiya conducted 340 field tours, 2,890 inspection visits and five inspection campaigns on restaurants and shops to assure all food items fulfil the requirements with regard to safety and hygiene.
