DOHA: Qatar Charity has launched the third round of the ‘Competitors 2’ program in a ceremony held at Al Jazeera Media Café in Katara Cultural Village, where the second round’s teams have been honoured.
The program aims at providing opportunities to the various community institutions to take part in the competition of doing charitable, humanitarian, developmental and creative works as well as community marketing with new and innovative ways.
Qatar Charity had launched the second season of the program at the end of 2017. In the second round of the season, the competition was held between the teams of Al Ahli Sports Club and Al Wakrah Sports Club and both managed to implement humanitarian projects, with the support of the philanthropists of Qatar, in Indonesia and Kenya to benefit thousands of people.
During the ceremony, the Winer Shield was awarded to the team of Al Ahli Sports Club, who beat the team of Al Wakrah Sports Club according to criteria relating to the excellence of the creative idea, the strength of the teamwork spirit and the social media engagement.
Certificates of Appreciation have also been presented to the competing team of Al Wakrah Sports Club, who has successfully funded a project, that involves the construction of a school with the capacity of six classrooms and 25 houses at a cost of QR1.5m benefiting 1,250 people.
The launching of the third round marked the beginning of the competition between the teams of Vodafone and Barwa Bank.
The first team consists of Salem Bin Lakhn, Ali Al Qahtani, Fahad Al Sayed and Mohammed Al Yafaei. The second team includes Fahed Al Azba, Osman Al Maraghi, Mohammad Ramadan and Sultan Al Maraghi.
Ahmed Al Ali, Assistant Executive Director of the Executive Management of Media and Communication, said “We are pleased to launch the third round of the ‘Competitors 2’ program, which is a field of giving and doing charity, noting that philanthropy has no boundaries and limits and here it is my pleasure to welcome the new teams from the private sector to participate in the contest of doing good, expressing his pride in having sports heroes in the second round”.
Al Ali thanked all those who contributed to the success of the last round, including scholars, partners, opinion leaders, social media influencers, media professionals, and sportspersons.
