Qatar Youth and Junior Choir, in keeping with its tradition of delivering quality choral music, is all set to host the talented Don Diri Don choir from Poland. Following Qatar Junior Choir’s educative, musical journey to Poland, where the young singers along with their director Alena Pyne experienced the warmth of Polish hospitality, the talented choir from Poland will soon arrive in Qatar.
Don Diri Don under the umbrella of the Szczecin Academy of Arts was founded over 30 years ago. Under Dariusz Dyczewski their artistic director and conductor, they have not only participated in the musical life of their city Szczecin, the choir has also performed in Bydgoszcz, Słupsk, Lublin, Warsaw, Kraków, Legnica, Kalisz, Katowice and has toured countries of Western Europe, North and South America and Asia. Their repertoire includes choral works from the Renaissance period to modern times.
Qatar Youth and Junior Choir Director, Alena Pyne says, “We are so excited to host this great youth choir comprising students of ages ranging from six to 18 years. We have planned an exciting week of outreach and choral workshops at schools in Doha, spiced with local tourism and delicious Middle Eastern meals. The highlight of the tour is the main concert on Saturday November 3, when they will share the stage with Qatar Youth and Junior Choirs.”
She also added that all this has been enabled through the generous support of the business community in Doha; Music Square, FNAC, Millennium Hotel, Swiss International School and the Embassy of Poland. Pyne adds, “We hope to see a music loving local audience on November 3 with us to welcome our talented visitors and enjoy the concert programme.”
The Ambassador of Poland to the State of Qatar, Janusz Janke says, “The Embassy of Poland in Qatar and I personally as Poland’s Ambassador in this beautiful country, are delighted and honoured to partner with Qatar Youth and Junior Choirs in their generous hosting of Polish Don Diri Don Youth Choir here in Doha. We were happy to facilitate Qatar Junior Choir’s visit to Poland last summer and we absolutely love the fruitful outcome of this visit, which is presenting in the form of Don Diri Don Choir’s re-visit.”
Janke adds, “I have no doubt that this joint project will contribute significantly to both choirs’ talent and musical expertise. I also hope that these young singers will make lasting friendships. We look forward very much to the choirs’ performances here in Doha. It’s going to be a real treat for music fans."
