MoI hosts seminar on safety of public transportation

Doha, Qatar: Asymposium organised by the Security Research and Studies Center at the Police Academy in cooperation with the Public Transport Security Department at the Ministry of Interior (MoI) shed light on strategies for securing public transportation, in light of Qatar’s experience in the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The symposium, which was attended by a number of officials and officers in the Ministry of Interior and representatives of relevant authorities was entitled “Security and Safety of Public Transportation: FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 as a Model.” It discussed a number of topics, including the experience of securing public transportation during the World Cup, experiences and expertise in this field, and readiness and preparedness for the security and safety of public transportation.

Head of the Public Transport Security Department at the MoI Colonel Salem Sultan Al Nauimi reviewed the department’s role in securing public transportation and its various forms of infrastructure, and the patterns of cooperation with partners in the planning, development process and achieving goals according to performance indicators.

He touched on the department’s experience during the World Cup in Qatar, pointing out that the concept of security was adopted in the design and a security model was developed based on security risk management, while employing the latest modern technologies in the insurance process.

Colonel Al Nuaimi indicated that this approach necessitates the establishment of important frameworks for preparedness and response to accidents, emergencies and crises in cooperation with partners, stressing that the department’s mission was crowned with success in ensuring smooth movement of visitors and fans during the tournament.

Director of Security Research and Studies Centre Lt Col Dr. Jassim Mohammed Al Obaidly pointed out that the organization of the symposium came from the standpoint of strengthening cooperation frameworks between the center and the various departments in the ministry and out of belief in the importance of the security and safety of public transportation.

He stressed the importance of the role of the authorities concerned with public transportation in upgrading and employing it, in order to achieve national development goals, enhance flexibility in the transportation system, highlight integration in transportation operations, and benefit from the experience of Qatar 2022.
