DOHA: The State of Qatar welcomed the agreement of North Korea and South Korea on the denuclearisation of the Korean peninsula and the relevant measures in the interest of peace and stability in the region.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated Qatar’s assertion that reaching a comprehensive and satisfactory solution for all parties through dialogue and peaceful means will end decades of conflict that has cost the citizens of the two Koreas and which has resulted in the dispersion of the families since the 1950s, in addition to spread security and tranquility among North Korea’s neighbours.

The statement affirmed Qatar’s full support for efforts to curb the spread of nuclear weapons around the world. It also stressed the need to contain the situation of escalation existing in the Middle East through the activation of peaceful means and ways to resolve disputes and differences and reduce the existing nuclear ambitions of all parties.
