Minister of Labour H E Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri at the Global Fair Recruitment Initiative Conference: The Way Forward: From Policy to Practice
Doha, Qatar: Minister of Labour H E Dr Ali bin Samikh Al Marri, joined a high-level panel at the Global Fair Recruitment Initiative Conference: The Way Forward: From Policy to Practice, convened by the International Labour Organization in Geneva.
He appeared alongside Gilbert F. Houngbo, Director-General of the ILO; Luc Triangle, General Secretary of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC); and Roberto Suárez Santos, Secretary-General of the International Organisation of Employers (IOE).
The session—titled “Fair Recruitment Forward: Call to Action to Accelerate Progress and Commitments to Fair Recruitment for Decent Work”—examined strategies to hasten global momentum and secure concrete pledges for the Global Strategy for Fair Recruitment (2026–2030).
Dr Al Marri emphasised that fair recruitment is “not only an ethical duty but the very foundation of a sustainable, high-productivity work environment”. He outlined Qatar’s recent reforms in labour-market governance and noted the extension of its technical-cooperation agreement with the ILO, underscoring Doha’s commitment to aligning domestic standards with international norms.
Closing the session, Dr Al Marri stated that the future of fair recruitment “must be built not only within national boundaries but across bridges of cooperation, mutual trust and shared responsibility among States—anchoring social justice on a global scale”.
