Doha: A team from Qatar University (QU) won first place in the Global Electric Vehicle Challenge (GEVC), which is part of the Future Mobility Challenge hosted by the Abu Dhabi University.

The QU team won four awards including first place among its peers for the speed of technical qualification, first place for the quality of the car’s manufacture and first place for the engineering design of the car.

Dr. Khalid Kamal Naji, Dean of the College of Engineering at QU said: “The victory of the team in this global competition comes as a result of the College of Engineering’s endeavour to develop engineering education and provide it with educational outputs concerned with innovation, the use of technology and project management.”

He added, “The participation of students in international competitions enhances awareness of other cultures and gives students the opportunity to benefit and interact with other teams and promote the exchange of knowledge and experiences.”

The challenge saw the participation of 21 high school and university teams from five countries. The competing students participated in two competitions, the Electric Vehicle Grand Prix and Global Electric Vehicle Challenge.

Students worked in teams to design, build, test and race single person electric cars.
