Washington: Donald Trump on Wednesday said the United States has "defeated ISIS in Syria," appearing to respond to multiple reports of a US troop withdrawal from the war-ravaged country.

"We have defeated ISIS in Syria, my only reason for being there during the Trump Presidency," the Republican president tweeted, just after CNN said the US was planning a "full" and "rapid" withdrawal of troops.
